Screening Kya Kehna in the context of The Scarlet Letter by Nathanial Hawthorne

The task

1.What are the names of the protagonists in both the works?

Character of Hester is protagonist of the novel the scarlet letter and character Priya is protagonist of the movie kya kehna.

2.Write their story in brief.

The Scarlt Letter story :-
Hester is protagonist character of the novel. Hester is married woman. Her husband is outside at few years. So Hester lived alone.  she fall in love with priest Dimmesdale. And both are doing adultery. Hester become pregnant and Dimmesdale didn’t accept that time. At end of the novel he had accepted he is father of Hester child and immediately he was died. Then again Hester live alone with her daughter.

Kya Kehna movie story :-In the  movie kya kehna Priya is protagonist character. In the beginning Priya is student,  After completing school. She join new college. there she fall in love with Rahul. HeHe belong to rich family, he didn’t loved to Priya. He just like Priya's beauty. After Priya became pregnant at that time Rahul denied for taken responsibly of Priya and his child. Then Priya fight alone with society for her child and then she gave birth of her child. At the end of movie Priya choose ajay to marry. Movie is ends with happiness.

3.What is the role played by society in Hester’s life?

According to me Hester's life is very complicated in the novel. She has not her identity without husband and she faced many problems. society give punished kept her prison.  Then society release her. And again she lives alone.

4.What is the role played by society in Priya’s life?

Priya is college student and she fall in love with Rahul and then she became pregnant. But he didn't accept priya's baby. He belonged to rich family and Priya belonged to middle class family. He and his family didn't accept Priya. After she become pregnant without marriage society and also her parents didnt support her. After a lot of problems Priya convinced society and her parents that why she gave birth to a baby.

5.Compare and contrast the male characters, Roger Chillingworth, Arthur Dimmesdale, Rahul, and Ajay.

The characters Roger Chillingworth, Arthur Dimmesdale novel characters and Rahul ,Ajay are movie characters. All male characters are completely different from each other. Roger Chillingworth is Hester's husband and Arthur Dimmesdale is Hester's lover. Ajay is good character the movie while Rahul is not very good character. In novel Roger is not accept her wife to become pregnant of Dimmesdale s child. There are totally different characters from each other.

6.Compare and contrast ‘The scaffold scene in The Scarlet Letter’ and ‘a year-end performance in Kya Kehna in which a group of students performs a play on Priya and her pregnancy’.

'The scaffold scene in The Scarlet letter’ and 'a year- end performance in Kya Kehna' movie both situation its like same but something is differ like at the end of novel Hester didn’t give her lover name and any suggestion to people. While Kya Kehna end of movie in the stage Priya tried to justify herself, she hadn’t done wrong decision to giving birth of child that thing is not doing Hester in the novel.

7.What are the reasons that Arthur Dimmesdale and Rahul do not come forward to accept their fatherhood? How do you they differ and what are the similarities?

Because Arthur Dimmesdale is priest and he thinks about society, While Rahul belong to rich class family he thinks about society. Rahul is not so good character as Roger also not so good character. Both didn't accept the both women's.

8.What is the role played by Chillingworth in Hester’s life? Why do you think he wanted to take revenge on Hester and Dimmesdale?
Chillingworth is husband of Hester.

Chillingworth played villain role in Hester’s life and he wanted to take revenge to Hester. Because he tried to know who is Hester lover. And he killed one person his belief that man is Dimmesdale.

9.What is the role played by Rahul’s mother in Priya’s life? Why do you think she wants to take revenge on Priya?
Rahul belong to rich family for that  his mother didn’t accept Priya as daughter in law and she wanted to take revenge on Priya because she believed Priya is not their status girl because Priya belonged to middle class family.

10.Write a note on class difference in Kya Kehna.

In the movie Kya Kehna two class conflict Priya belong to middle class family and Rahul belong to high class family. We can see that here in this movie described class conflict.

11.Why do you think the director has lifted the character of Ajay to the ideal state? Is it possible in real life? What are the reasons of your YES or NO?

According to me in real life  it is not  possible because real life is different. I think now a days I don't think any man accept the relationship like ajay accept the woman who pregnant. Ajay is very kind person. I said that according to my observation on society.

12.How do you see Hester and Priya as individuals?

Character of Priya is very
stronger than Hester because at the end Priya convinced society while Hester is not.

13. Write a critical note on the end of the movie and the novel. Why do you think the novelist has not given happy ending?

Both are interesting. Movie gives moral idea while novel  represent at that time society real image. I think for the he has not given happy ending of novel.

Thank you.

The Butterfly poem by Arun Kolatker

Here I discuss about  a poem is a literary form composed in verse. It normally gives account of personal feelings, emotions and imagination. The poem The Butterfly There is no story behind it. It is split like a second. It hinges around itself. It has no future. It is pinned down to no past. It’s a pun on the present. It’s a little yellow butterfly. It has taken these wretched hills under its wings. Just a pinch of yellow, it opens before it closes and closes before it o where is it. When I was in B.A I studied various poems. For example The Butterfly which was written by  Arun Kolatkar, an Indian poet wrote about the place- Jejuri, a temple town. Jejuri is a poor place and the hills in Jejuri show the barrenness of the place. His style is simple (English) in contrast with Mahapatra where he uses English and his ideas very effectively. Whatever he sees in Jejury they have a story of their own. The poet says there is no story behind the butterfly, the very being...
